The McCalls have been growing and selling Pinot Noir and Merlot on
Long Island's North Fork since the mid 1990s in the hamlet of Cutchogue,
where we have our family home. We planted knowing we were not going to sell
our grapes until the time was right to make a very special wine. We weren't interested in putting our name on a bottle unless it was great. 2007 was the vintage we found to be our jumping off point. While many wineries may produce and sell as many wines as possible, we decided to go a simpler route.
Find one or two things you are good at and do them well. What has resulted is McCall Wines. We mainly grow two varieties; Pinot Noir and Merlot. Following a french influenced model we make high quality, low yield wines.
Marjorie's Rose'……....................State Code 26901
100% estate grown, our Rosé is made from sustainable grapes, hand picked and crushed with the grape skins promptly removed so as to impart just a touch of pink color. We don't use oak or sulfites so you get a fresh, crisp, natural glass of wine with notes of raspberries, rose petals, and red fruit. #drinkpink
Unoaked Chardonnay……....................State Code 26904
Crisp and clean, this stainless steel fermented chardonnay was sustainably grown and hand harvested. As you enjoy this bottle think of citrus, pear, and almonds. Great with local Long Island seafood.
Pinot Noir……....................State Code 26902
Balancing dark cherry with nuanced aromas of strawberry and spice, this Pinot Noir was carefully hand harvested from our sustainable vineyard. The vintage shows nice concentration of fruit with a touch of crisp tannin. Barrel aging in French oak contributes notes of vanilla and toast leading to a well structured, elegant finish.
Merlot……....................State Code 26903
Soft tannins and jammy fruit intensity. The ten acre Merlot vineyard is uniquely situated atop strata of clay which is known to provide the best growing conditions for this varietal (as in Pomerol, France.) The 2009 Estate Merlot is a handcrafted limited production wine that melds concentration, balance, and complexity with distinct notes of blackberry, blueberry, and soft lingering tannins.
